Created by the French company'Aldebaran Robotics' in 2008, and acquired by'Softbank Robotics Japan' in 2015, NAO is an autonomous and programmable humanoid robot that has been successfully applied to research and development applications for children and adults. More than 13,000 NAO robots are used in more than 70 countries around the world. Pretty much every lab working in human-robot interaction research owns a NAO making it the social robot that has been the most used in the history of the field. In our paper '10 Years of Human-NAO Interaction Research: A Scoping Review' published in Frontiers in Robotics and AI, we present an overview of the evolution of NAO's technical capabilities. We also present the main results from a scoping review of the human-robot interaction research literature in which NAO was used. Appearance-wise, NAO hasn't aged a bit.

COVID's impact on jobs and the economy has been profound and, quite honestly, confusing. On the one hand, stories of people who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic – and are now starting to lose government benefits and eviction protection – have become both commonplace and gut-wrenching. At the same time, there are signs and postings everywhere desperately looking to hire people, from large companies to small-town restaurants. Short-staffed organizations are being forced to delay orders, adjust their hours of operation, and make many other uncomfortable changes to keep their businesses alive. While there is no simple reason these often-conflicting trends are occurring simultaneously, one undeniable fact is that we're witnessing a significant and rapid-paced shift in the jobs environment.

JADS organizes this educational program in collaboration with EAISI part of TU/e. The program combines a practical approach, working through example AI projects thereby showing how to successfully execute an AI project, with building a solid understanding of the fundamental principles underlying #machinelearning. This newly developed educational program is aimed at management and senior professionals who recognize the opportunities of Data Science and AI.

MIT's School of Engineering and Takeda Pharmaceuticals Company are working together to drive innovation and application of new artificial intelligence applications for healthcare and drug development. WHY IT MATTERS The program, based at MIT's Abdul Latif Jameel Clinic for Machine Learning in Health, or J-Clinic – which specializes in developing new healthcare AI tools – is funded with a three-year investment from Takeda and aims to leverage the expertise of both organizations. With the collaboration, MIT will gain access to pharmaceutical infrastructure and expertise, and develop new educational program through J-Clinic that will support MIT faculty, students, researchers, and staff in their approach to AI development. The new program will combine algorithm and hardware innovations, and create multidimensional collaborations between academia and industry. THE LARGER TREND The MIT-Takeda Program will focus on funding as many as 10 flagship research projects per year in the areas of machine learning and health,including diagnosis of disease, prediction of treatment response, development of novel biomarkers, process control and improvement, drug discovery, and clinical trial optimization.

Artificial Intelligence and machine learning have disrupted human activity since its inception in the 1960s. Today, we depend on intelligent machines to perform highly sophisticated and specific tasks without explicit human input. Rather, they rely on patterns and inferences instead. AI algorithms have been used in a wide variety of applications, from email filtering and computer vision to the disruption of the retail, travel and finance industries. An ancient sector of our economy, and one that has largely remained unchanged; education- has yet to realise the full implications of artificial intelligence within its operations.

My career in wargaming began by chance, not by design. Initially hired for my writing on national security and my Marine Corps background, I learned to be a wargamer on the job. With no prior wargaming experience, I was taught to combine my storytelling ability, my knowledge of the military, and my personal experience with commercial board games to develop analytical wargames. Surprisingly, my unexpected introduction to the field is not an aberration, but the norm. Across the defense community, wargaming is cultivating innovation and guiding important discussions.

Musing on the future of the economy earlier this year, Bill Gates warned of smart machines replacing human workers and suggested a tax on robots. A new study of how technology is changing American jobs suggests workers are most immediately challenged by more common technology that Gates himself bears much responsibility for, such as Microsoft Office. The new study from the Brookings Institution used government data on work tasks to track how use of digital tools changed in a wide range of occupations between 2002 and 2016. Use of digital technology, such as computers and spreadsheets, became more important to occupations of all kinds. But the most dramatic changes were felt in jobs traditionally least reliant on technology skills--think of home health aides and truck mechanics using computers to diagnose problems or record their work.

To meet the growing demand for AI expertise, companies are offering online education courses to prepare the workforce for the future. Increasingly, computers and devices learn and act on their own using software algorithms, the building blocks for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Getting smartphones to understand voice commands, smart home sprinkler systems to change with the weather and online services to predict what people want requires programmers skilled in AI and ML. Demand for these coding skills is skyrocketing. Making devices smart and proactive remains controversial to anyone who fears that automation will lead to human job loss.
